Dear users and authors,
how are things going with your Advent calendars, Christmas decorations, etc.? Any progress?
Please don’t post any ads in this thread—thanks. This thread is just for a general exchange of opinions.
I’m not really in the Christmas spirit yet. Well, that’s probably the case for most people here. But I’m afraid my Christmas decorations will be pretty sparse this year. There have been a few years when I didn’t put up any decorations at all because I just didn’t feel “Christmassy.”
I guess this is going to be one of those years again...
With this weather, I’m not really thinking about Christmas yet. I’m still pretty much immersed in spooky bats (my son) and colorful butterflies (my daughter).
Although I did just think today that I should slowly start working on the angels. But I’ve been thinking that for three years now, and somehow I still haven’t gotten started on them....
I think I’ll go with snowflakes instead—they’re more my style, and I prefer decorations that can stay up longer. Snowflakes work great as window decorations from November through March.
I’m not really in the Christmas spirit yet either… soon the nasty fall weather will be here, when you want to curl up on the sofa, surrounded by loooads of cozy wool… and then the inspiration and motivation will suddenly be there!
It’s already feeling very Christmassy here for me :-)
We baked our first vanilla crescent cookies last week because my uncle really wanted to eat some. Luckily, it happened to be cold that day.
My study is currently piled high with yarn for my husband’s sweater, and that’s no small amount, since he’s quite a big guy. And right now, I’m crocheting Christmas gifts for three boys.
But before the Christmas decorations come out, it’s time for the fall decorations first.
Well, thanks a lot—now I’m craving vanilla crescent cookies. You’ll find the address in my about page—bring ’em on ;-)
Just kidding, but I’ll probably bake some this weekend, too. (The weather’s supposed to get colder, after all.)
Right now I’m working on the second one of my Christmas amigurumi (pattern to follow at some point ;-)),
and on the side I’m always crocheting hats and scarves for “Christmas in a Shoebox” (though I do that all year round. It’s kind of weird sometimes, sitting on the balcony in the summer when it’s over 30° and crocheting a hat... No one’s allowed to see that, either...)
And when I’m not in the mood for crocheting, I’m picking out yarn cakes for shawls that all the women in my family will get for Christmas.
All this preparation really gets me in the Christmas spirit, and I actually find it kind of nice that the weather is getting worse! (Isn’t that sad?!)
But: Even though I’ve already gotten a full head start on gifts, decorations just aren’t really my thing. I’m not really a decorating person. For Easter, I crocheted a little bunny and put it in a basket. It’s still there, next to my blinking Santa, who stays up all year too ;)
-->> Better not do that. Anything I put up or hang up never gets taken down anyway :D
Hey there! I’m getting started too! I look forward to Christmas all over again every year ;)
Yesterday, I had to really resist the urge to grab something as I walked past the gingerbread shelf
I actually finished my Christmas decorations back in August. Unfortunately, I’ve kind of run out of ideas for what to crochet since then :-(.
I’m afraid I’ll have to wait for the first snow to really get into the spirit.
