The coziest cozy yarn

Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 2:16 PM
Good morning,

I’m looking for some reeeally cozy yarn. What kinds do you guys use, and which ones would you recommend—or not recommend?

Thanks so much,
Janina

What do you plan to make with that veeeery cozy yarn?

For cozy sweaters and anything that touches bare skin, I prefer yarn made mostly from animal fibers (like alpaca or kid mohair) or blends (merino with cotton, wool with silk, wool with mohair, or angora).

However, I wouldn’t necessarily use this wool—which can be quite expensive—for amigurumi or decorative items. There are now some really cozy synthetic fibers available for those purposes.

I recently handled a yarn from Lang Yarns—it contained polyamide. That’s what makes the yarn so soft and cozy, and it’s often used in baby yarns. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name anymore. Maybe you could check the yarn list for yarns with polyamide. I’m currently adding Lang Yarns—I’ve gone through the new releases, but the rest will take a little while longer. Among the new releases, there were Doudou, Omega, and Omega + with a high polyamide content. From Schachenmayr, I quickly spotted Fashion Soft Mix, Baby Smiles Super Soft, and Baby Smiles Merino Mix.

Thanks, everyone :-). I’ll dig through it and thanks again for the great list, Conny :-)

Cashmere! It doesn’t get any cozier than that (though it doesn’t get any more expensive either, sigh...)

Fluffy yarn from myboshi—it doesn’t get any softer than this! And it’s not expensive.

Dear Janina,
I can recommend yarn from Drops; it’s usually 30% cheaper than other brands and OEKO-TEX certified. The alpaca and merino yarns are cozy, so Alpaca, Brushed Alpaca Silk, Air, Cloud, Baby Alpaca Silk, Baby Merino, Merino Extra Fine, and Big Merino. The last three are currently available with 25% off the already low price.
Best wishes

Organic angora. The little animals aren’t mistreated, and they have rights, too!!
