Hi,
do I absolutely have to buy this pattern to submit a photo or participate,
or can I crochet an owl myself... because I don’t need a pattern for 2,- ;-)

Well—theoretically, you could have bought the pattern somewhere else, of course.
I’d interpret this to mean that the finished project must clearly be recognizable as Natalija’s spring owls—and can’t just be any old owl.
