Honest prices—just throwing it out there

I recently read something on the topic of “Why is this so expensive?” and it got me thinking about the patterns. The basic idea was that if you’re constantly offering discounts for no reason, you’re essentially saying that the price was too high to begin with—or, to put it bluntly, that you were lying. And that, in the end, people aren’t looking for the cheapest option, but rather what’s right for them—good photos, the right sizes, and clear explanations.

What I liked best was the point that it’s really the scope that justifies the discount, not the price itself. Half price would, strictly speaking, mean half the value—but what do you cut out then? Half the sizes? The step-by-step photos? And those are often exactly what I’m paying for in the first place.

Now I find permanent discounts confusing. If a pattern is always 40% off, then I just end up waiting for the next sale instead of just buying it—and I wonder, by the way, what the original price is even supposed to mean.

I’d almost prefer an honest, fixed price where I know exactly where I stand. Does that annoy you too, or do you still go for it when there’s a permanent discount? Best regards.

No, that doesn’t bother me at all. It’s entirely up to me whether and when I decide to buy—and at what price. And there are so many reasons for discounts; I’m not going to question every single one—I don’t need to overcomplicate things.

When I’m looking for a pattern, I’m not looking for a price—I’m looking for a specific project. And when I find patterns for it, I see which one best suits me and my skills and which one I like best. The price is pretty much the last thing that might influence my decision.

I feel the same way as Veronika; I look for a project or an item and see which pattern best suits my needs, skills, size, etc. I don’t look at the price at all. And honestly, in my opinion, the prices at CP aren’t high.

Have a wonderful Sunday, and best wishes from Carola

I just like to browse. And if I discover something I’d never have looked for—something that catches my eye right away and makes my hands itch—then I want it. Whether it’s on sale or not.

That’s how it was with socks once. They were in the newsletter; I thought they were great because they were something special—I just had to knit them.

When someone offers a discount, it’s often because they’re hoping to boost sales where things might not have been going so well.

Discounts are everywhere, after all. I can totally understand them at the end of a season or when new patterns come out.
