Hi everyone! Last night I counted how many projects are actually lying around here… I came up with seven. Seven! Half a tapestry blanket, two amigurumi, one without eyes and one without a head, a sweater where I lost interest halfway through the second sleeve…
I’m on the verge of unraveling everything. Put the yarn back in the basket and start over with completely empty needles. On the one hand, this almost feels like a relief right now—no more guilty conscience when I walk past them, no more “you really should finish this” every time I see them. On the other hand, I feel bad about all the work I’ve put into them, and I wonder if I’ll end up starting the exact same seven projects all over again in a few months.
I need a little nudge in one direction or the other. How would you decide? Unravel it all and start with a clean slate, or give it one last try, working through them one by one before letting anything new onto the needles? And if you’ve ever unraveled everything yourself… how did it feel afterward—like a relief, or did you regret it the very next day? As I said, I either need a gentle nudge toward the scissors or someone to talk me out of it. All the best.
I’m not one to leave projects unfinished, but I’ll try to put myself in your shoes. So, an amigurumi without eyes is basically just one more step, and without a head it’s not much more work either—I’d just finish it.
A sweater on the second sleeve… so the front and back are already finished too? Then it would really be a shame to rip everything out again, unless you don’t like it at all anymore.
The toughest one is probably a blanket like that—even half of it is still a lot of work, so unraveling it might be a good alternative.
I’d consider how much finishing each individual UFO is worth to me.
Would I use the finished pieces, would they have real value for me?
I recently unraveled two finished pieces and gave them a new life.
Before that, I didn’t wear them, or only wore them while feeling uncomfortable.
Now they’ve become favorite pieces.
Maybe take the UFOs in your hands one by one and then decide how important the finished pieces would be to you.
I also have UFOs that I’ve stashed away somewhere. When I dig them out again, I’m happy that I’ve already done so much and then I finish them.
Hugs, Sigrid
I’d take a close look at everything and think about what to do with the amigurumis—give them away? And if all that’s missing are the eyes, it’s worth finishing them. As for blankets and sweaters—do I still like them the way they are now? If yes, finish them; if not, unravel them.
I’ve even unraveled finished sweaters and such before because they were just sitting unworn in the closet.
Thank you so much! I just went ahead and unraveled everything without a second thought. Right now, it still feels good and liberating to me… it just clears my head. Best wishes.
