🧶 Let’s Knit History! The Sock World Record & Award Have Begun

Hello dear creative community,

we want to support a real world record together with you! The goal? To create the longest sock clothesline in the world. To do that, an incredible 36,000 pairs of socks are needed – and we know our community has the best needles in the world! 😉

To make your efforts twice as worthwhile, we’re also launching the big Crazypatterns Award.

💰 €2,027 prize pool: We’re raffling off shopping credit worth a total of over €2,000.
🏆 111 winners: There will be monthly drawings and a grand finale in March 2027.
🌍 Part of the record: Your socks will help break the world record (size 40+, cuff at least 10 cm).

It’s this easy to join in:

1. Knit a pair of socks (any pattern is fine, as long as the measurements are right).
2. Upload a photo of them to our Award Gallery – this automatically enters you into the raffle for our prize pool.
3. (Important for the record): Send the actual socks to the official collection points later so they can go on the line.

What a great campaign!
Unfortunately, I don’t knit socks. Still, I have a question: What happens to the socks after the record attempt? There are several charitable campaigns and organizations that could certainly use your creations. Just a thought.
I’m sure you’ll break the record 🤞👍

After the world record attempt, the socks will be donated to charity (social service organizations, etc.). So you’re not just knitting for the glory—you’re also knitting for a good cause!

That was my idea.
But nobody would want socks that I knitted 😄

Leading this campaign are Swiss bookseller Miriam Cahannes, designer Veronika Hug, author Susanne Oswald (“Der kleine Strickladen”), and her husband Bernd Oswald. There’s a separate website dedicated to the sock world record. And yes, the socks will ultimately be used for a good cause. To quote them:After the event, these socks will be donated to cold-weather buses, aid buses, and stationary assistance centers in Germany, as well as to corresponding facilities in Switzerland. They founded the “Sockenweltrekord” association for this purpose. With this world record attempt, they aim to bring the issue of homelessness to the public’s attention, foster understanding, and work together to make the world at least 36,000 pairs of socks warmer and friendlier. ... Of course, you can start knitting right away, but the official kickoff will take place at the Swiss Yarn Festival (SYF) 2026. Knitting will continue for one year, and the world record attempt will then take place at SYF 2027. I wish all participants the very best of luck!

@SaniyTila: Yes, the information about the collection points will be published gradually on the official Sock World Record website . As soon as there is any news, we will of course keep you updated here as well. In the meantime, you can definitely go ahead and start knitting and keep your finished socks safe – there is still plenty of time!

@s-va: Great that you want to take part! The official world record attempt is for knitted socks – unfortunately, crocheted socks cannot be counted for the record. But: Take a look at the thread “Crocheted socks, sewn socks, or felt socks for a good cause in addition to the knitting world record" – there we are collecting ideas on how crocheted socks can also be contributed for a good cause!

One more important note for all participants: Feel free to upload pictures of your finished socks to our World Record Gallery – you can find it here:

That’s such a lovely idea, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the record attempt is a success. Unfortunately, I’m absolutely terrible at knitting socks—I just can’t do it, even though I knit and crochet almost everything else; but socks—the thought of them terrifies me. Also, there aren’t any knitted-sock enthusiasts in my family; otherwise, I’m sure I would have learned by now.
