There was a huge bang...

...and I jumped right out of my chair. I thought something had fallen, but nope—it was my thermos; it literally imploded with a loud bang. It’s not like I need something like that every day, but that thermos was at least 38 years old.

Wow, that’s something I’ve never experienced either!

Well, lucky nothing happened to you. The lid was on the thermos, after all. But why did this just happen after 38 years? Very strange, but no one was sitting inside it. And 38 years is definitely a good age for a thermos.

Speaking of imploding or exploding… I used to pickle zucchini with my next-door neighbor. I’d grown round zucchini, and we stored the ripe ones in her wooden garden shed. It was the height of summer—so it was very warm in the shed, too. Yeah, and then there was a loud bang. One of the round zucchini had exploded. Something was probably fermenting inside it, and the heat caused additional pressure to build up. So the thing exploded. Well, you can imagine that it wasn’t a pretty sight.

Oh yeah, things are pretty explosive over there. :-) Just picturing it now—I would’ve fallen out of my chair in shock, too.
But it all turned out okay in the end.
