"Elli" has us in her grip

"Elli" has us completely in its grip. The storm has died down a bit, but it’s snowing nonstop and it’s freezing cold.
You’re sitting inside in the warmth, thinking to yourself, “You wouldn’t send a dog out in this,” when the doorbell rings. A delivery person, bundled up thickly, brought a small package. She got a big thank-you and a tip for her trouble.
The streets aren’t plowed, the weather’s terrible, but the delivery people have to go out anyway—after all, there could be complaints.

Dear Marlies, it sure looks like a real winter where you are. 
Well, there really are people who can’t work from home, like your newspaper delivery woman. They have to go out in all kinds of weather. 

Speaking of winter and doorbells ringing ... last night around 9 p.m., my doorbell rang too. A neighbor was looking for her little kitten named Tiger. She had surgery two days ago and had to have a leg amputated. The fur around the surgical site was shaved off, and she was on medication. Since she’s an outdoor cat, she probably thought she could just roam around outside on her three legs, just like in summer and on four legs. But unfortunately, she hasn’t come back from her outing yet.

That evening, we walked through our garden and the neighbor’s garden together, shining a flashlight into all sorts of hiding spots. Even the neighbor’s dog, who was with her, didn’t bark. Well, we don’t know how this will turn out. But hope springs eternal.

Here in Mainfranken, it’s mild, 5°+, it snowed heavily last night, and by this morning pretty much everything had melted away—let’s see what tonight and tomorrow bring.

Elli seems to be giving Cologne a wide berth. It rained heavily last night; this morning, not a single flake of snow was left, and today it’s been raining almost all day with temperatures up to 8 degrees. So, actually, everything’s quite typical and normal for Cologne.

We’re having a fierce storm, but as of today, temperatures are back up to 5 degrees Celsius. 

We didn’t really get any snow here. 

The snow has taken a break for now, so I’m heading out to dig out the sidewalk. In some spots, my 30-cm-high boots were just barely tall enough. By now, the snow is heavy and sticky. Shoveling makes my arms feel longer and longer, and my back is singing arias.
My neighbor said that our Netto and Edeka were closed starting at 2 p.m. The bakery was closed, too.

Let’s see how things look tomorrow.

@Ina: I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the kitten.

Here in Berlin, luckily, the storm never actually hit, even though there were serious warnings the day before.

But better that way than the other way around 😄 We still have snow, though, and the kids can go sledding again.

Last night we had a crisp -15 degrees. 🥶 Now there’s bright sunshine at “only” -10 degrees.
Let’s see what tomorrow brings with the forecasted freezing rain...

It was -6 degrees here, but that’s already sensational for Cologne. It’s been sunny so far, but now it’s clouding over. Freezing rain is forecast, and I’m afraid the weatherman isn’t wrong this time.

I love snow ⛄⛄⛄⛄ and am eagerly waiting for it. I don’t really have to go out, and I’m not working anymore, so it can come. 

There’s really nothing here. Yeah, ❄🍃 cold—the wind is cold. But no ❄ snow. And we had lots of 🌞🌞🌞; it was really nice during our walk.
