Good morning,
I was thinking about maybe becoming an author here, so I did a little research and found a review that got me thinking. A shell company in Latvia (okay, I can understand that). More than a 50% deduction for a pattern. Troublesome users are banned from the forum for asking inconvenient questions (criticism not welcome?). The billing system (taxes in non-EU countries) is opaque (?).
Crazypatterns
belongs to a Russian couple. (?)
Is that true, or will I get deleted right away too?
I’d be happy to be corrected—or how does the saying go?
Regarding your questions, I’d like to share my experience as a designer.
Of the net purchase price, 30% goes to crazypatterns, and 70% goes to the designer. Personally, I think that’s fair when you consider the services you receive from crazypatterns (provision of infrastructure / order processing / the ability to run various ads / detailed expense and income reports / joint development of the platform / joint promotional campaigns / personal contacts for support (instead of a chatbot, etc.) / and much more). The fact that, in the end, only slightly more than half of the purchase price goes to the designer is due to taxes, not CP.
A friendly atmosphere is fostered in the forum. Objective criticism is always welcome and is taken into account by management; often, designers’ wishes are even explicitly asked for in the authors’ forum. Constructive and respectful behavior is encouraged in communication. Those who adhere to this will not be banned.
In my opinion, the billing system is very transparent. For every single purchase, I can see which country the buyer is from and the amount of VAT that was deducted.
I don’t understand the question about nationality. Basically, designers from a wide variety of countries are certainly active on crazypatterns.
In conclusion, I can say that I feel very comfortable on this platform with its family-like atmosphere. Over time, you get to know many authors (especially those who are active in the forum and contribute), and—in most cases—there’s a sense of collaboration rather than competition. Thanks to the many opportunities to connect directly with customers (through reviews, product comments, the forum, the gallery…), it’s much more personal here, and I feel closer to the customers than on any other platform. I really appreciate that.
I agree with that.
Also, you should treat one review you found as what it is: just one review. CrazyPatterns wouldn’t be what it is if this review reflected more than a personal, one-off experience.
Many thanks to everyone who has already commented and clarified things here. Everyone likes to read kind words—including us 😊.
Just briefly on the facts, since the claims mentioned are completely baseless: We are a regular EU company (founded in 2006—so we’ve been on the market for 20 years). Crazypatterns has exactly one founder, and his nationality is verifiably German. Other stories are simply fabricated. Furthermore, it is simply unprofessional to misuse the founder’s nationality for scaremongering.
On the topic of taxes: We engage numerous international tax firms to ensure our legal compliance and guarantee correct procedures. Since we invest a great deal of money in this, we naturally do not make this information publicly available (and thus free of charge to our competitors).
Dear community, dear authors, thank you for the creativity that goes into every pattern. For 2026, we wish you health, happiness, and lots of success! 🍀
I haven’t even been “active” on CP for a year yet, but I’m glad this platform exists.
I’m not familiar with the review you’re referring to.
From my perspective, the billing procedures and terms are clearly outlined in the FAQ and documented in the account in a way that’s easy for authors to understand.
Apart from that, whenever I’ve had concerns, I’ve always received appropriate answers and/or suggested solutions from support, or I’ve been able to find answers to most of my questions in the forum.
Personally, there are several reasons why I chose CP. One of them is that the barrier to entry as an author is quite low, and CP organizes and handles many of the tasks you’d otherwise have to manage yourself (without knowing whether you’d be successful). I think the price is reasonable for that.
I also think the associated forum and the dedication of the team and the community are really good and fitting.
While reading through the forum, I came across some threads whose discussions I couldn’t quite follow and that seemed a bit strange. However, they were already quite old, and I suspect that as a newcomer, one might not have all the relevant information about what happened.
As I said before, I can’t confirm any lack of transparency or bans solely for criticism (as far as I can tell). That’s why I think it’s great that someone has brought this platform idea to life and is succeeding with it. The founder’s or operator’s nationality doesn’t matter to me personally. Even if that were the case and they were Russian, I’d still think the idea and its implementation were just as good.
And I certainly didn’t mean to “lecture” you with my comments 😊. I just wanted to contribute to the discussion.
I’ve also tried other sales platforms in the meantime.
But this is the only place where both the creators and the customers are given such close attention.
Thanks for your kind words. I couldn’t believe it either that people aren’t allowed to criticize here and get banned. Bad reviews can quickly ruin a business. That’s terrible. I’ll see if I can start selling here soon, too. I wish everyone a Happy New Year from Norway—godt nytt år, Mevag
