Happy New Year to all of you!
Yes, it was quiet for me, too—I was the guardian of the house and the street, with everyone else on vacation or out celebrating. Except for one house—and they’d stocked up on fireworks, so I even had a fireworks display right outside my window at midnight.
New Year’s Eve hasn’t been “our celebration” for a long time now. Back when we were very young, we often partied hard, but that happened less and less—our enthusiasm for it noticeably waned. Then, for years, we spent New Year’s Eve in Alsace—cozy wine taverns, delicious food, lots of walks—that was perfect for us.
In recent years, it’s just been the two of us, since my husband couldn’t leave the house anymore. That was always nice and cozy, too, and we didn’t stay up to see the New Year every year. And now I don’t feel like going anywhere either—I’d rather stay cozy at home.
We were invited to our children’s house for raclette and games.
We watched the fireworks from our granddaughter’s window, and it was very impressive.
There were far fewer loud bangs. Still, it makes me shudder when I think about how much money goes up in smoke in such a short time.
The four of us (my husband and our two kids—ages 4 and 6) celebrated at home.
A late and long nap made sure both kids were awake to see in the New Year.
We had delicious raclette, music, and games. It was a really lovely New Year’s Eve, and after a few sparklers, the kids were more than ready to go to bed 😁
