Should I cut open a knitted scarf?

Hey everyone,

I have a scarf I knitted myself that I don’t wear anymore. I know it would be hard to unravel—the yarn literally felts when you try.
My idea: Cut it open, neaten the seam with a sewing machine, and then sew it into a headband.
Would that work? What do you think?

Maybe start by carefully cutting it open generously.
Then neaten the edges along the cut and sew the pieces together.

Just a suggestion—hopefully the scarf is big enough for a second try.

Or—if possible—before you cut it, pull a thread through the stitches and cut it off at the top.
Do the same at the bottom.

Then sew right over it again.
