Dear community,
Do you know any good shortcuts or tricks for crafting steps?

Dear Josefa,
there are plenty of lists online (and in craft books, too) with abbreviations for all kinds of stitches and steps. You don’t have to make up your own—and if you use the standard ones, everyone will know what they mean. It’s basically the ABCs of crafting.

Best regards, Ina

No, I didn’t mean abbreviations used to describe stitches, but rather shortcuts to combine multiple steps into one.

Like, for example, working the ends into the stitches so you don’t have to weave them in?

Oh, I see. Well, I’m not a fan of abbreviations here. I prefer it when the step is described in words. Not everyone might be familiar with a specific abbreviation. That’s when I always get stuck in patterns and have to search online to figure out what’s meant. That annoys me because I just wanted to keep working smoothly.

But maybe that’s just my personal style. I prefer to explain things clearly and concisely rather than using abbreviations.

Best regards, Ina

What I meant was pretty much what Veronika mentioned.

For amigurumi that have arms, I crochet both arms first before making the body, and then crochet them directly into the corresponding round of the body.

This saves me the hassle of sewing them on.

When knitting double-faced, I usually work with both hands.
That means I knit with both my left and right hands.

When sewing straight pieces, just pin them together with straight pins and sew right away. This only works for very simple items, though.
Like small pouches or bags. And if you place the pins perpendicular to the seam, you can even sew over them with the sewing machine.
But I only do that very rarely.
