Sewing pants pockets

Do you have any tips on sewing pants pockets?

Pants pockets are an absolute must for many types of pants. Work pants and jeans often have so-called patch pockets on the back, which are cut from rectangular or square pieces of fabric and sewn directly onto the pants. You can close them with a zipper or a button, depending on your preference. Then there are the sewn-in pockets, which are usually found in fabric pants like suit pants, but are also sewn into the front of jeans
 These pockets consist of three parts: the front pant panel, the pocket bag, and the pocket itself. The pocket bag is sewn right sides together onto the front pant panel, as shown in the next picture.
The pocket bag is then folded inward to the wrong side of the pants, and the opening is narrowly topstitched from the right side so nothing slips. Then the pocket is sewn on; it is placed on the pocket bag so that the curves of the pocket lie flat, and it is stitched along the curve. The pocket is closed and this is what it looks like from the front  The pocket is finished. Hope this is shown clearly

For pockets in men’s pants, you should definitely use sturdy fabrics.
Delicate fabrics might be suitable for a pocket in a women’s skirt, where nothing more than a handkerchief or two is stored. But men carry around things like key rings and other bulky items, so the pocket fabric has to be able to withstand that for years.
 

Sturdy twill is best for this—it’s durable and won’t wear through easily.
