Please don’t take this the wrong way, but why don’t you just write the pattern yourself? Tinkering, experimenting, and unraveling are all part of it. That’s what makes handmade work special. Why create patterns using AI? What do you want to train the AI with? Other patterns? Copyright?
Personally, I think crochet patterns created using AI are absurd and have nothing to do with handmade work.
And we’re here at Crazypatterns. Here, we make sure the patterns aren’t AI-generated, so they’re easy for customers to follow. If you’re so unhappy with Etsy, why not try some patterns from here? You can see from the reviews which patterns are good and easy to understand.
Everyone here started out not knowing how to write a pattern.
The fact that you’re not satisfied with Etsy is one thing—but that’s by no means a reason to have an AI write patterns.
Writing, crocheting, unraveling, re-crocheting, and writing again—that’s all part of writing a pattern.
If you want to train an AI to do this, there’s no way around the steps mentioned above.
So save yourself the trouble of training an AI.
I don’t understand what your dissatisfaction with Etsy has to do with writing patterns?!
Do you want to write and sell patterns yourself, or do you just want to use the patterns for your own use?
I’m a bit confused here....
For my part, I wouldn’t be interested in AI-written patterns. I much prefer patterns written by real people with love, passion, and patience—even if it involves a lot of fiddling and grumbling. They’re usually tested multiple times, and you can be sure they “work.”
If an AI writes the patterns, who will help when customers get stuck? That’s where the authors take responsibility and step in to help.
The issue is that people on Etsy are writing patterns based on AI images that don’t match up at all. As I’ve read so often, Etsy doesn’t issue refunds for digital items (I have no idea if that’s true—I’ve just often read comments from people still waiting for a refund
so that at least you get a pattern that lets you finish the object). All of this is for my own personal use, and of course I’ll look for a solution so that “these” don’t end up on Etsy (at least not via copy-paste).
If you do want to make them for your own use, how would they end up on Etsy???
Could it be that you’re already offering dragon/dinosaur patterns on Ravelry?
People aren’t writing patterns based on the AI-generated images—the AI is. That’s why it doesn’t make any sense. You want to do it right now and use AI to create patterns based on the images. That won’t work. If you want to make the patterns for your own personal use—why would they end up on Etsy?
Sorry, but I have absolutely no idea what you’re actually trying to do.
@christin-apostel,
I would really appreciate it if you contacted Etsy support with any Etsy-related issues. We cannot discuss Etsy problems here in the forum. Please also refrain from making disparaging remarks about Etsy and its business policies or how it handles problems.
It would also be a good idea for you to look into the topic of copyright in detail with regard to AI and patterns.
