Scrunchies / The ’80s Are Back (Not an ad thread)

Hey everyone,
Things are getting weird—the ’80s are back in style.
Might as well break out the hairspray right away; maybe those voluminous hairstyles will be back in fashion soon—bushy eyebrows have been all the rage for a while now, after all.
Anyway, I thought we could slowly—very slowly—get used to the new ’80s trend and start by trying out scrunchies—you know, those hair ties with a gathered, sewn fabric wrap. They can even be made of velvet, and I could totally see crocheting, knitting, or knooking them.
Scrunchies were never really out of style, but we can always try to jump on the scrunchie trend. Surely there are plenty of great beginner patterns we can create with them?
Of course, you can also use up those bright, trendy colors or leftover yarn, since the ’80s and neon colors go hand in hand:

Yeah, great! I had no idea that’s what they were called.
It would be awesome to crochet or knit something out of leftover yarn. :-)

I used to make them out of hand-painted silk back in the ’80s... I wonder if silk painting will experience a renaissance too?... 

This is the first time I’ve heard that name, too—but I use these things every day. It’s definitely a good idea for using up leftover yarn.

That’s a good idea.
But the name… terrible. Do we have to anglicize everything?
But what else would you call it?

I can’t think of any other name for them besides hair ties. But I liked the idea and made some myself. :-)

Will there be a promotional thread for this at some point?
