Bag Charm Hype Because of Labubus?

Dear community,
have you heard about the hype around Labubus? They’re those unusual little creatures currently being worn by celebrities and trendsetters as bag charms. Since the supply is limited, though, not everyone can have one. But hopefully that’s okay, because we have lots of patterns for bag charms in the shop. Many of them can also be made by beginners and with leftover yarn. Could this become your new crafting project?

Would you like to show pictures of your bag charms here? Please only upload your own pictures.

I’ve had things dangling from every bag for ages—mostly homemade with little beads and such—I’ll take a quick photo.
I think Labubus are ugly, and so are some of the charms that come attached to bags from the store; I end up replacing those. Kipling, for example, has this weird monkey as its logo—I don’t like that either.

So, here’s a selection:

I embroider a bag charm like this for myself every now and then, often with my initials,
or make something myself.

Best regards, Inge

That’s a nice idea, too. Do you reinforce the embroidery with anything, or is a sturdier fabric enough?

Veronika, I usually embroider these little buttons onto felt and double-layer them.
I’m on my phone right now, but when I’m back at my laptop later, I’ll look for some to share.

Hugs, Inge

Here are two with my initials and one in the shape of a ship’s wheel. The little worm hanging from one of them was a gift from my oldest daughter.

Love, Inge

Hi everyone,

I might have seen this figure online before—it doesn’t ring a bell right now. Personally, I don’t think it’s very pretty either. But as they say, there’s no accounting for taste. To me, it looks kind of monstrous. I’ll stick with my Hello Kitty, or my self-strung or crocheted figures.
Ladybugs are always a safe bet, or my beaded dragonfly. I’ll upload some photos when I get the chance.

Veronika and Inge, you have quite a large selection there. They look great and varied. I’m always up for beads.
Inge, I really like your nautical pendant. Great work.

Have a pleasant rest of the day, everyone
I’m enjoying my days off, finally recharging my “batteries”

Hugs, Andrea

If it weren’t for Josefa’s post, I would never have come across the word “Labubus.” I’ve really never heard or seen it before. So you see, I’m not the target audience.

Best regards, Ina

I just came across the Labubus today, and they were right there alongside the Lafufus—just as silly! I’m always amazed at what ends up becoming a craze! In any case, I’d rather stick with the good old teddy bears (classic versions).

Since time immemorial, there have been fads surrounding all sorts of things—whether bag charms or necklaces (pacifiers 30 years ago) or certain clothing items (fringed vests 60 years ago)—that signal membership in a particular group.

If it fits your personal style and you have the spare change: Why not?
After a certain age, however, some trends might seem a bit silly and out of place.

Oh dear, these little monsters are ugly. Now I was horrified to see that my 11-year-old granddaughter got four of these medium-sized ones from her dad. (To distract her from some frustration she was feeling.) She showed them to me, and lo and behold, she’d made a little bed for each one with a string of lights above it—and now she wants me to make her, guess what.......……? A knitted hat for each one. Matching the color of each little monster, of course—we still have some taste left :-).

The hype passed me by too—I just had to check it out first.
Nope, it’s not my thing—it seems someone has once again tapped into the spirit of the times and is making a killing with it.

I like other charms much better; I’ve had quite a few over the years—and given some away, too. A lucky charm like that makes for a nice little gift.
