Which yarn for summer hats

Hi everyone,

I’ve been thinking about crocheting a summer hat for my little one for quite some time now. So today I have a question for you. Which yarn is best suited for this project? The yarn I have here seems too thick to me. I also bought some “potholder yarn” (weight 3) in really great colors at Rossmann, but I’m not entirely sure if that would be ideal.

Hi Nici,

For my girls’ lightweight hats, I like to use Catania by Schachenmayr—it’s 100% cotton and, in my opinion, works great for lightweight hats. Plus, there’s a huge selection of colors. But you can also use any other 100% cotton yarn with a yardage of about 125m/50g. For example, there’s also “Limone” by Schoeller and Stahl—it’s just like Catania, comes in many colors, but is much more affordable. ONLine also has one, though I don’t know exactly what it’s called right now. I also like to make sure it’s mercerized and singed; I find it works up more comfortably that way.

I’m also in the middle of crocheting a little summer hat right now. The alternative yarn to Catania is called “sandy online Linie 165” — you can also combine the yarns really well, which is exactly what I’m doing right now :-) If you want the hat to be a bit thicker, take a look at the summer yarn from myboshi — it’s made of cotton with kapok, is light as a feather, and has quite a long yardage.

Thank you so much for your tips. Catania sounds good. I’ve already found it online at a good price and am adding it to my shopping list. Let’s see what I can whip up for my little one with it :D He’s so into fire trucks and cars in general ;) so I’m sure I’ll be able to really let my creativity run wild again
