Jelly Rolls for Quilting

Dear community,
have you already tried using Jelly Rolls / pre-cut fabric pieces for quilting / for patchwork?

As far as I know, most quilt fabric manufacturers have their own names for their strip assortments. “Jelly Roll” is, to my knowledge, the registered name for Moda’s collections. Other manufacturers call their strip assortments “Roll-Up,” “Design Rolls,” “Rolie Polie,” “fabric snail,” or simply “fabric strips.” So I’d be careful about referring to all such items as “Jelly Roll.” 

I’ve sewn quilts using these kinds of strips as well as other pre-cut assortments, such as Charm Packs. There are also Fat Quarter Packs and Layer Cakes. The latter, however, are a rather impractical size for my taste (10 inches = approx. 25 cm edge length). 

Strips are versatile, but they aren’t suitable for all types of (classic) quilt blocks. Of course, you can also simply sew them together as is, without a specific block pattern. If in doubt, though, I’d probably buy fat quarters and cut them myself.
