Children’s Safety Day, June 10, 2025, and World Play Day, June 11, 2025

World Play Day will be celebrated on June 11. This year’s theme is “Let’s play – with all our senses!” The aim is to find more freedom for play, bring people from all walks of life together, and promote the connection between play and culture. World Play Day was “invented” in Tokyo in 1999 and added to the official list of UN observances. In Germany, the German Children’s Fund (Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk) coordinates activities for this day. Do you think children have enough freedom to play?

Dear Josefa, I haven’t heard of such a day before.

Our six-year-old grandson stays with us once a week. We’re always playing. We come up with all sorts of great ideas. And we also talk about all kinds of things. Of course, we discuss potential dangers as well. That happens naturally, without needing a specific day for it.
