Dear Community,
Have any of you had experience using stabilizing interfacing when sewing? Is it difficult to sew on?

Oh, there are quite a few types of stabilizing
interfacing. For collars and cuffs, or on the front button plackets of blouses, shirts, and dresses, you usually use a lightweight, not-too-thick kind. Then there are sturdier types that you can use for pockets on blazers and jackets. For jackets, people often even use interlining—that is, a material made from sturdy fibers is sewn into the front panels to give the jacket its structure.
Then there’s the very heavy-duty type, known as “Schabrakenvlies,” which is very often used in the linings of curtains and the like. This Schabrakenvlies is also used as a stabilizer in handbags and similar items.

Best regards, Inge

Hi Josefa, I like to use iron-on interfacing. It comes in almost every thickness. You don’t have to worry about the grainline, and once the adjacent seams are sewn, this interfacing definitely stays in place.

Hi Inge,
is the saddle pad fleece thicker than Decovil?

Pelmet interfacing is almost as stiff as firm cardboard; it’s often used for curtains that have pelmets at the top rail, because it holds the fabric very precisely and securely where it belongs and makes the pelmets look neat and tidy.
