I liked the intarsia sewing class best. Unfortunately, it was only a few hours spread out over several days. It took place at the adult education center (Kunst-VHS) in the summer.
The instructor explained everything really well and, of course, demonstrated it too. She also talked about the origins and history of the technique and more.
You could bring your own patterns, but they also provided some on-site. Materials were available for purchase there.
Another time, there was a moccasin-sewing class.
It was held on a Saturday and a Sunday, with several hours each day. We were given a booklet with many patterns for moccasins from different tribes. The instructor explained everything really well. The leather and sewing supplies were available for purchase on-site. You could take the booklet with the patterns home with you. I still have my moccasins and wear them every now and then.
I’d take a course like that again in a heartbeat.
It’s just that niche courses like this are rarely offered.
There always has to be a certain number of participants registered.
Yes, I’ve taken a sewing class before—it was great and really helpful. We’ll see—maybe I’ll find another one that’s right for me; I’d definitely do it again.
I’ve also taken sewing classes before.
They had specific goals.
When I was younger, that’s how I sewed my first skirt. Using the sewing pattern I made myself back then, I was able to sew even more skirts that were quite different from each other. That was a great introductory course.
Later on, I took a course on custom-fit clothing and a lingerie-making course. That was great, too.
If you don’t fit standard sizes, it’s just amazing to be able to make clothes tailored to your own exact measurements.
Yes.... I took part in two knitting classes in a small group. Double knitting and Fair Isle....
Super relaxed and, as I said, in a small group, it was really fun. Lots of theory: which yarn, what needle size, and what else you need to pay attention to. For Fair Isle, we also steeked, in different variations, etc.
I also took a sewing class once… I ended up making a pencil skirt. Then I made felt flowers and knotted dreamcatchers. Unfortunately, our local craft and sewing store closed for good at the end of the year…😢
In the 1970s, I took two sewing classes at the Chilean adult education center and learned how to draw patterns—first for adults, then for children as well. I even sewed myself a coat. Now I’d like to learn how to properly work with jersey fabric, since I still don’t quite feel confident doing it.
First of all, I need to get over my fear of the sewing machine…
