Dear community,
what do you use as stitch markers?

I use small carabiner clips for this.
The kind that are also used as clasps on some necklaces.

I have homemade stitch markers made from jewelry wire and beads. When knitting, you can hang these over the needle at the spot you want to mark.

Of course, the post above should say “stitch marker.”

When I crochet, I prefer to use different-colored threads. Ideally, a thinner yarn than the one currently in use in the project.

Or, every now and then, ones that look like little safety pins. They’re made of plastic.

I use safety pins, in different sizes as needed.

You can buy ready-made ones made of plastic—I have quite a few of those at home... and I almost always use a strand of yarn in a different color.

I use slightly larger, colorful paper clips. 📎
They work great. And if you ever need an extra one (as a row or round marker, for example), you can just thread it through the knitting.

I do it like Veronika. The colorful ones I buy are usually too thick for my thin yarns. A thin thread with a knot is simply the better choice.

Best regards, Ina

I don’t like using fancy stitch markers with beads or similar decorations. My yarn gets caught on the wire and beads too often.
If I need to hang markers on specific stitches, I use the colorful, closable ones. If I need markers to “travel” along the needle between stitches, I like to use the marker rings from electric toothbrushes.

Hi Cookie Monster, that’s a great idea. We end up with them all the time anyway.
