Dear community,
if you have the choice between comfortable clothing and fashionable clothing, which is more important to you? Can you have both at the same time?
Since I sew all my own clothes, thank goodness I can combine the two to a certain extent, because I’ve actually never really followed any fashion trends.
I’d always choose comfort, because fashion is just a passing fad, and that’s why I won’t compromise on it!
I don’t care about the fashion industry’s trends—comfort is obviously the most important thing, but it should look nice, too. Buying shoes can sometimes be a bit more complicated; when the fashion world “dictates” some nonsense, it’s hard to find anything else.
If you want something that’s both comfortable and stylish, you have to search for a long time or make it yourself. Maybe our standards get higher as we get older. When I was a teenager, looking stylish was definitely more important to me than comfort. Now I wouldn’t wear anything—neither clothes nor shoes—that isn’t comfortable. But it still has to look good, otherwise it’ll probably just stay in the back of the closet.
If at all possible: both! Although “stylish” doesn’t necessarily have to have anything to do with current fashion trends. To me, “stylish” is whatever I like. Unfortunately, that’s no longer an option for me when it comes to shoes: I need orthopedic shoes, and they’re anything but chic! But I just can’t walk in any other kind.
If “stylish” means constantly chasing the latest trends: No, thanks.
If “comfortable” means mostly running around in baggy sweatpants and faded T-shirts: No, thanks (unless you’re cleaning out the basement).
Depending on your circumstances, job requirements, age, and body type, everyone can develop a personal style that ensures you practically always look put-together and your best, while being appropriately dressed at all times. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune either; with decent quality and a color palette that’s easy to mix and match, you’ll be set for years.
And if you can’t figure it out on your own, you can always seek advice.
They say that if you want to keep up with fashion, you have to be quick on your feet. That’s too much effort for me.
I prefer comfortable clothes (sporty-chic). At home, I go for casual and comfortable; when I’m out, I go for sporty-chic (sometimes pants, sometimes a dress—comfortable, not like I’m dressed up or feeling constricted), so something suitable for everyday wear.
