Lining Bags

What can you use to line bags, especially crocheted ones? Are there any tips for making the bag a little sturdier?

Crocheted bags, knitted bags, and even sewn bags made from thin or soft fabrics have little to no structure.
You can line these bags with a sturdy fabric (e.g., denim, thicker canvas, etc.) to achieve some structure. However, in most cases, this alone won’t provide true structural stability.
For real structural stability, you should reinforce the lining fabric with (iron-on) interfacing. This comes in a wide variety of qualities, strengths, and types, such as volume interfacing, etc.
Keep in mind, though, that structural stability always comes at the expense of the bag’s elasticity and packability.
If you want a bag that won’t stretch out but can also be folded up small and stowed away (e.g., a shopping bag), you should simply sew in a thin, non-stretch lining fabric (e.g., a very lightweight cotton fabric).
