Buying old yarn again

Hi everyone!

Maybe some of you have had this problem before. You’d really like to get hold of some yarn that’s no longer being made. And somewhere in a warehouse, exactly what you’re looking for is still sitting there. How can you find it? I found some online with a shout of joy. Then came the letdown: the yarn is available from three different sellers in the U.S., and none of them ship to Germany. Too bad—I got my hopes up too soon. 
I’m looking for the “Curly Wurly” yarn from Sirdar, because I found a pattern for a great vest for teens. 
Maybe someone has a hot tip on where else I could look.

I checked Ravelry right away—the yarn has been used very little (only 58 posts). Ravelry would have been my suggestion.

Otherwise, there’s the idea of asking friends or family in the U.S. or on vacation trips—basically as intermediaries.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply! I’m afraid I’ll have to forget about the vest. The pattern is from 2013, and the author emailed me to let me know which yarn she’d use as an alternative. But I don’t like that one, so I’ll either keep looking or just give up. But your suggestion—to ask a former colleague who flies to the States often for help—is a good one. I hadn’t even thought of that. Thanks again, and have a nice evening!
