Unraveling projects: Have you had to unravel anything?

Dear Community,
Did you have to unravel or rip out a project, or did everything go smoothly?

Lately, I’ve been finishing every new project right away. But I have so many UFOs sitting in various boxes, so I’m unraveling a lot right now.

But that’s okay—this way I can spend many more hours working with the yarn (and hopefully finish the new project I’ve started).

I actually only completely rip out a project if, while working on it, I realize I’ll never wear, use, or give it away. I’ve occasionally done this for “Mystery Knitalongs,” where you didn’t know in advance what the final result would look like.

When I make a knitting mistake, I only rip out as far and as few stitches as absolutely necessary to fix the mistake.

I just had to unravel a few rounds myself. But that’s not too complicated with crochet, is it? I crocheted a square patch using the moss stitch pattern—working in the round from the center out. I had to rip it out because the patch ended up being too big for my bag blank.

Feel free to take a look at the finished bag. I’ll show you exactly how it’s made next week on the CP blog.

Best regards, Ina

I just had to rip out a crochet project, too. I forgot the crossed double crochet right at the beginning and didn’t notice it until the return row.

On my last knitting project, I was able to fix a dropped stitch using a crochet hook.

I’m in the middle of knitting a patterned hat, and the first pattern I actually wanted to try didn’t turn out very well at all, so I unraveled it, and now I’m trying a second pattern. I hope this one works out; otherwise, I’ll just knit stockinette stitch ;-) :-)

Best regards, Inge

Right now I’m knitting with an alpaca yarn that’s kind of like mohair. I have to be careful with this one, because it probably doesn’t unravel well.
Otherwise, with almost every little crocheted animal: you can’t get it right without unraveling it at least once.

Hi everyone,
I usually just read along here, but I’d like to share my latest unraveling story on this topic:
My daughter really wanted a Snoopy hat. No sooner said than done, I thought. A simple hat shouldn’t be a problem. So I tried making it freehand at first. I ended up having to unravel it twice because the shape just wouldn’t come out right  (I’d never crocheted or knitted a hat before). So I looked for a pattern, found one, and got started. No idea what the problem was, but the shape still didn’t work out. To sum it up: I had to rip out this hat a total of six times (!) before we were satisfied. That was my first and last hat 😁

But it looks great, though.
