Question about the Bio Tronik #3 triangular shawl

I have a question about the Bio Tronik #3 crochet pattern. My mother is crocheting it for me, and I’m asking on her behalf. I have absolutely no idea about crochet.

How does it work with the 3 chain stitches and then crossing them?
