Felt Ball

I recently told my friend how my oldest daughter reacted when she saw a fully decorated Christmas tree for the first time. My daughter turned one five days later, and when she came into the living room on Grandpa’s arm on Christmas Eve and saw the tree, she called out, Pa! Ball, ball, ball and reached for the baubles :-) My father, with wise foresight, had already gotten me unbreakable plastic baubles for the lower branches, so that if the child reached for them, she wouldn’t cut her little fingers if one of the baubles broke.
My friend then said, why don’t you give her a small handmade sewn ball for her birthday as an homage to her first Christmas tree, which I thought was a great idea too, and now the ball is finished. My daughter is turning 55 this year, just to show you how long ago that was :-)
