sewing a pointed seam

Dear community,
what is a pointed seam in sewing?

By “pointed seam/panel,” I mean when you insert a so-called godet—like here on this skirt—to create more leg room. The skirt used to be a pair of my jeans that I had “outgrown” ;-) To keep it from becoming a pencil skirt that was too tight, I added these pointed inserts so I can wear it without tripping over my own feet :-) ;-)
You can also use these corners in coats and jackets, as well as blouses, if you could use a little more room around the hips.

Okay, so for clothing, it’s for greater freedom of movement. 
But I’ve also seen it on a bag in the shop. In that case, it’s more decorative. 

Exactly, Josefa, something like this can also be incorporated nicely as decoration; it looks great on pillows and tablecloths, too.
