Paper Piecing: Sewing on Paper

I’ve never tried it before, but it sounds interesting. I’ve embroidered on paper once, but it was a real faff and the result wasn’t really that great.

Sewing on paper is a great technique—you can do all sorts of things with it, like these projects. It took almost 4 weeks to finish the mandala because, when sewing on paper, you have to think in reverse: the fabrics are placed mirror-inverted, and the drawn template lies on top, so the right side, meaning the good side, has to be hidden. It takes a little while to get the hang of that. I once sewed the quilt for one of my granddaughters, and the mandala hangs in my home from time to time.
