A few years ago, I knitted some market-woman gloves for a friend. She complained that whenever she was out and about in the winter and needed to blow her nose, she had to take off her gloves every time. Now she can do that just fine without having to take off her gloves every time. She was very happy with the idea and the gloves.
I think they’re practical.
I even have a pair where you can fold the thumb flap back.
They’ve always been my go-to mittens for texting.
And in winter, when you’re buying fresh fruit and vegetables at the farmers’ market, they’re great.
A small button on the back of the hand keeps the little finger pockets secure and out of the way.
I bought them 15 years ago at the Christmas market in Bratislava.
I don’t have any myself—I have wrist warmers instead—but I think they’re great too. Part of your fingers is still wrapped in warm wool, so you can still use your fingers.
I knitted some for my teens 20 years ago (my own design): gloves with 5 short, open fingers, then I picked up stitches along the back of the hand and the thumb and knitted a little mitten cap on each, with loops at the top for buttons... The kids loved them because you can touch everything—and when your hands get cold, you have mittens 👍😃
I knitted a pair out of Christmas-themed yarn for my godson because he asked for fingerless gloves, and I think they’re especially practical in the schoolyard or while playing. His sister was definitely very excited and wants a pair, too. We’ll have to wait until St. Nicholas Day to find out what he thinks of them—that’s when he’ll get them.
