Crochet Hook Size for Beginners

Dear users, dear authors,
which crochet hook size is suitable for beginners?

Not too thick and not too thin—I’d recommend sizes 3 to 4.

I’d also suggest size 4 hooks.
After all, you first have to learn to recognize and count the stitches correctly. They shouldn’t be too big or too small.

Pot holders are a typical beginner’s project. They turn out nice and thick with a size 4 hook. :)

With kids, I’ve always started with size 4. If the hook is any bigger, it becomes too unwieldy, and you’ll need thicker yarn, which also gets heavier. If the hook is too small, it’s too fiddly for their fingers.
With kids, I also like to start by making chain stitches just with my fingers so they can understand the concept 😉
