Difference between sts and sc

Hello everyone,
I found a crochet pattern online that I don’t quite understand. I suspect it was translated from English. 
Could you please help me with it?

Rounds 1 and 2 are clear to me. But after that I’m lost; it confuses me :)  

Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6 sts) 
Round 2: 12 sts)                                        
Round 3: 1 sc, 18 sts)
Round 4: 1 sc, 12 sts, 2 sc, 5x 1 sc (24 sts)
Round 5: 3 sc, 12 sts (30 sts)
Round 6: 2 sc, 12 sts, 4 sc, 5x 1 sc (36 sts)
Round 7: 5 sc, 12 sts (42 sts)

none of this makes sense.
Each round increases by 6 sc.
Try it like this:

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: [2 sc in one stitch / increase] x 6 (12)
R3: [1 sc, increase] x 6 (18)
R4: 1 sc, increase, [2 sc, increase] x 5, 1 sc (24)
R5: [3 sc, increase] x 6 (30)
R6: 2 sc, increase, [4 sc, increase] x 5, 2 sc (36)
R7: [5 sc, increase] x 6 (42)

the abbreviations mean

M = stitch(es)
and FM = single crochet(s)

I know the abbreviations for M and FM. But I don’t understand the difference between M and FM in the description provided. 

In my opinion, this is just a way of saying: You crochet 6 single crochets into the magic ring, so there are a total of 6 stitches in this round.
