Rollator cushions

I sewed two rollator cushions; my godmother now needs one of these “cars” for walking, too, and when it gets cold and you want to sit down
for a bit, those seats are always freezing, so a cushion is welcome—
it keeps your bottom warm. Those seats are always made of plastic, and they get really cold.

That’s a great idea, Inge. Yeah, those seats are pretty hard, too.
I know that from my job.

Why don’t walkers come with a soft seat cushion as standard? That should be standard equipment. Not everyone can sew something suitable like Inge did.

In any case, it’s a great idea! If you were to market them, everyone who uses one of these walkers would want one. And they look great, too!

Dear Inge, have you ever thought about lining the underside of the seat cushions with insulation foil to protect against the cold? That’s another type of fabric you can sew with. Then the seat cushion wouldn’t just be soft—it would also insulate against the cold from below.

No, Ina, I don’t do that, because these coated fabrics are pretty slippery, and then the cushion would just slide around on the seat—and that’s not the point. There’s a risk you’d slip off the seat and fall to the ground. I always stuff the cushions with fairly thick batting—it keeps you very warm—and I’ve had experience with this since 2008, because that’s how long I’ve been using a walker, and I’ve tried quite a few things.
