Hello dear crochet friends.
I bought a crochet cardigan pattern and don’t understand the instructions for the front pieces.
It says here:
Right front piece: 41 (46) ch + 1 turning ch, then work in the basic pattern = 3 pattern repeats + ½ pattern repeat on both sides. (For the 2nd size, begin with the sts before the pattern repeat, keep repeating the pattern repeat, end with the 1st st after the pattern repeat = ½ pattern repeat + 4 pattern repeats.) After 72.5 cm = 47 rows (77 cm = 50 rows) from the cast-on edge, finish.
Somehow the pattern doesn’t work out... Can someone explain to me what I need to pay attention to and what this means?
Hi Elke,
welcome to our community. If this is a pattern from Crazypatterns, you can contact the author directly at any time and ask for help. The contact details are in the pattern or also on the author’s store page. You’ll also find a contact button for private messages there.
I wish you the best of luck.
Hi Elke.....
I’ll give it a try....
I don’t know which size you want to crochet, but for size 1, that would be a foundation chain of 41, then turn, make one chain stitch “for the height of the next row” (this isn’t counted), and then the pattern repeat. You crochet half of it at the beginning, plus three full repeats, and half at the end of your row...
So if your pattern repeat has, say, 10 stitches, then the last five at the beginning of your row and the first five at the end....
For size 1, you simply ignore the stitches marked for the second size in the pattern repeat....
When I’m following patterns that include multiple sizes, I always highlight “mine” with a highlighter, or just cross out the parts I don’t need....
Good morning, Steffi, thank you so much for your reply. I need size 2 and have started with 46 stitches + 1 stitch. For this size, I would make 4 pattern repeats and include the stitches before the pattern repeat as well. But I’m having trouble getting the pattern right on the left edge. Somehow, the crochet piece gets wider toward the top. If you read the pattern for the front piece at the top of my first question: How should I interpret the “MS”? Which stitches do I need to leave out after the pattern repeat or within the pattern repeat? It’s a miracle 😂 I look forward to your reply. I’ve drawn up the crochet diagram. It’s attached. Thank you 🤗
Mod Edit: I’ve removed the crochet diagram from a pattern that does not belong to the user.
For size 2, you crochet the stitches that come before your pattern repeat.... If I counted correctly, that’s 5... then the repeat 4 times plus the first stitch after the repeat.... 46 stitches....
You mention that your crochet piece is getting wider toward the top... Could it be that you’re counting the turning chain? Or crocheting into it in the next row?
@Kratzfestebeitze,
I’ve removed the crochet chart from the pattern because only crochet charts from your own patterns may be uploaded here. Purchasing or downloading the pattern does not give you the right to publish parts of it without the author’s permission.
Ah… now I’m slowly starting to understand what’s meant here. If I’m referring to the first stitch after the repeat… there are actually 5 double crochets in that one stitch as the pattern continues… and what do the edge stitches look like then?
I’ll give it a try, and thank you so much in any case. 🙏 Thank you so, so much! Warm regards from Kettwig an der Ruhr 🤗
