.. for my sewing machine. I’d had some lovely covers before, but they all emigrated to my daughters [image removed] today I finally sewed myself another one, but this time a very simple one, and this one is staying [image removed] because it used to be a simple old net curtain [image removed]

Oh, I love patterns like this with lots of paisley and flourishes! I’d love your dust cover for the sewing machine for that reason alone. I know so much pattern can be a bit overwhelming for the eye, but I love it! There’s so much to discover. And in your case, the cover isn’t just pretty—it’s very useful! Not a single speck of dust will dare to hide underneath it.

That reminds me—I need a dust cover for my sewing machine, too. I have one made of plastic, but that stiff thing never fits over it quite right. Maybe I should sew one for myself using my favorite fabrics. Do you have any tips for that, dear Inge? To give it some structure, it’s probably reinforced with interfacing, right? And how did you figure out the pattern and the size?

Best regards, Ina

Ina, first measure how big your sewing machine is, i.e. its length, width AND height, then pick out some fabric and decide whether you want to make the cover as patchwork or just sew the pieces together like I did. For stability, you can use a thinner batting and then line the cover. When cutting, DON’T forget the seam allowance, otherwise the cover might end up too tight. I’d suggest cutting a bit more generously rather than too tight anyway.

The pattern isn’t really my style 😉, but I’m in the same boat as Ina—the cover that came with my sewing machine is just so-so.
I understand reinforcing it with interfacing. But what does “lining it” mean? Sewing a piece of fabric onto the inside as a lining?🤔

Inge really always gives us new ideas—thank you :-) I’m off to pick out some fabric. That’s what I do best.

Karola, exactly—just sew in a lining.
