Norwegian Sweater / Fair Isle Knitting

Dear users, dear authors,
Is the pattern used in Norwegian sweaters a Fair Isle pattern?
Can these patterns also be crocheted, or can they only be knitted?

Strictly speaking, Fair Isle and Norwegian patterns are knitted “the same way,” but as far as I know, the term refers to specific patterns—there are very particular designs on the islands that are called Fair Isle. Another difference is the “steeking” process: they’re knitted in the round, including shawls, which are then “cut open” later....  The same goes for armholes and necklines.... there are no cast-off stitches there....
