I’ve already knitted about 73 cm along the edges; once I reach 1 m, I’ll continue knitting into a rectangle. I have quite a bit of leftover yarn, and if I run short, my daughter has plenty lying around ;-) :-)

Love, Inge

Great idea, and it must be wonderful when it keeps getting wider at first and then there are fewer and fewer stitches on the needle. At the end, you’re always so impatient and want to be finished, because the next idea has already been born. That’s when I think it’s great when the rows get shorter and shorter. It gives me the feeling that I’ll finish faster.

I’ve also thought about knitting a blanket from leftover yarn.

Do you have yarn in different weights, or is your yarn always about the same weight?

I like your colors

Thanks, Petra. I mix the yarns—or rather, I wind different thicknesses of yarn onto a ball so it matches the needle size I’m using. I can’t use any thinner needles anymore because my fingers and hands start to cramp up. Here, I’m knitting with a size 6 needle.

Hugs, Inge

A size 6 needle — I never would have guessed. Thanks for the info. I have some new leftover thick yarn at the moment. I’ll have to try that sometime.

You can always make the yarn thicker by doubling it.

Now I’m curious to see the progress and also the total weight 🧶

Dear Inge, that looks like a beautiful, colorful, and warm blanket. And knitting only knit stitches is really very relaxing. If you have the right needles, it’s very meditative.

I’ve knitted a pattern like this before, though not from scraps—I used solid colors, but in different shades. I can’t find the picture of the finished blanket on my computer right now. But my granddaughter Lisann has loved this blanket dearly for almost two years now. Before I started, I did some research to find the softest yarn for babies. And that’s exactly what I used here, knitting with two strands. It was quite an investment, but special people deserve special gifts.

Dear Inge, I hope you continue to enjoy knitting your colorful blanket.

Warm regards, Ina

Ina, this is actually already my third blanket that I’ve knitted this way. In 2022, I knitted this one for my husband—it’s a square measuring 150 cm x 150 cm. Towards the center, I had to use all the cables and connectors I had :-)

Best wishes, Inge

A scrap blanket like that is really nice, and with size 6 needles, it’ll be really cozy!

Just a quick update: I’ve been knitting on the blanket every day for the past few days, and today I knitted for about 3 hours too—there was nothing good on TV, so I knitted :-)

Love, Inge

Your blankets look great.
I think I need to knit one of these blankets myself. I can do that. Thanks for the inspiration.

Dear Inge, you’re making good progress. Now the rows are already getting shorter—which is a shame, isn’t it? Especially now that you’re really in the flow with it. As it’s getting brighter and warmer outside, the colors of your blanket are also becoming lighter and more cheerful. Keep enjoying this project. The blanket already looks great!

Best regards, Ina

Dear Inge, that’s a great idea. It’s a wonderful project for using up leftover yarn. I’ll have to check right away to see if I have any yarn lying around that I don’t need for anything else.

Wishing you all a wonderful and sunny Easter with your loved ones!

Love, Monika

Last year I made this temperature blanket, and I had quite a few leftover yarn scraps from that. But there isn’t enough for another blanket, so this year I’m making a temperature snake—there’s definitely enough for that.
