Dear users, dear authors,
How do you make bobbles / pom-poms for hats? Once they’re finished, how can you attach them securely?

I still use cardboard discs that I cut out myself—just like my mom taught me. Although there are some really handy kits available now, so maybe I should give those a try sometime.

I have these pom-pom maker sets; they come in 3 sizes, and yet sometimes, as Veronika writes, I still use a cardboard disc :-) I’ve also simply wound the yarn around my hand and made the pom-poms that way; with a little skill, it works too.

Best regards, Inge

I bought a set myself and am very satisfied. My pom-poms turn out much more uniform with it. They were much more uneven when I used cardboard discs.

I also own a pom-pom maker (by Clover) in various sizes. I’m very happy with it. You can wind small to large pom-poms, and they turn out nice and even. You only need to make minor adjustments with scissors. I made over 150 small pom-poms for my Christmas wreath. I could never have done that with cardboard. And they all had to look uniform, of course.

My grandchildren aren’t too fond of pom-poms on hats. That’s why I don’t have to sew them on very often. But when I do, I make sure they’re attached securely so they don’t fall off. I sew them onto the hat using the yarn from the pom-pom itself, just like a button—threading the yarn through the center of the pom-pom and the hat several times.

When I was a kid, pom-poms on hats were still in style. Back then, in the schoolyard during winter, someone would sometimes yank on a pom-pom—and just like that, the hat would come off, and you’d have to chase after it.

Best regards, Ina

It looks great on your Christmas wreath. I never would have thought you’d need so many for that.

My grandson loves pom-poms on his hats, and they can’t be big enough. Everyone’s tastes are so different.

I don’t like them at all myself—I’m always worried the hat will slip off 🤣
