Sewing on appliqués

Do you have any tips on sewing on appliqués?

To sew on appliqués, you should either pin them in place first or, as I do, secure them with a little fabric glue. I often iron my appliqués on using Flisofix (a double-sided iron-on interfacing), which gives them a very secure hold right from the start. That’s because appliqués have a nasty habit of slipping out of place and ending up crooked—and nobody wants that. You should always sew very close to the edge—it takes a little practice, but it’s doable. I would never just iron on an appliqué, though, because it comes loose over time and then looks “frayed.” You can also sew appliqués on by hand, but you should make sure to stitch very evenly—it creates a nicer overall look :-)
