Can someone please explain to me how to crochet a crab stitch?

I’d love to crochet some really cool flip-flops, but I’m stuck right now because I don’t know how to crochet a crab stitch (to be honest, I’ve never even heard of it or tried it before). Thanks in advance for your help!

Crab stitches are single crochet stitches worked from left to right.

I’d never heard of it before either, but apparently they’re single crochets worked "backwards".

When you make the "transition," meaning when you start the crab stitches, you make a chain stitch and then simply crochet "back" again. However, you do not turn your work; instead, you insert your hook directly into the last stitch.
Starting with the 2nd crab stitch, you no longer need to make a chain stitch, then just keep crocheting "backwards."

A crab stitch is a single crochet, but instead of working it from right to left as usual, you work it from left to right. That means you crochet this row backward. It creates a great, sturdy edge. Personally, I use a row of crab stitches to edge blankets, for example, so the edges don’t stretch out as quickly. L G
