There are foam puzzle mats that you can snap together however you need.
Just Google it—you’ll find what you’re looking for in no time.

My friend used to always block large pieces on the bedroom carpet (wall-to-wall carpet)... That wouldn't work for us, though, because we only have laminate and tile floors
