Dear users and authors,
what material do you prefer to work with or wear when it’s hot outside?

I like to wear pure cotton, but I don’t like knitting with it. I think blends of cotton and wool are brilliant, though. They knit up very well and are extremely comfortable to wear.

Viscose is also nice and cool against the skin, but as pure viscose, it can be a bit of a challenge to achieve an even stitch pattern. However, viscose is also found in many yarn blends.

I also really love the feel of silk against my skin—but I prefer to knit with it in a blend of silk and cotton or silk and wool.

In the summer, I prefer cotton for crocheting and cotton-linen blends or blended yarns with silk for knitting—they feel great against the skin and have a cooling effect.

For crafting, I prefer thin and lightweight yarns like fine cotton or a cotton-merino blend.
Alpaca is also said to feel great against the skin in the summer, since its special fibers are supposed to keep the heat at bay. I haven’t tried it yet, though.

I’m currently working with a blend of cotton and linen, and I was really surprised by how wonderfully light, soft, and smooth it feels.

The cotton makes it breathable, and the linen content gives it a lovely softness and suppleness. And the best part is, this yarn also comes in wonderfully vibrant colors, which is perfect for fun, colorful amigurumis!

I think I’ve found my new favorite yarn! :-D

I’ve just made a summer cowl using a silk-cotton blend. Wonderfully soft and very easy to crochet with.

Let’s see how the cowl feels on hot days...

This shirt is made from ribbon yarn—it’s light, smooth, and soft. It’s cotton blended with polyester but doesn’t make you sweat. I’m going to use the leftover yarn to make a summer loop scarf.
I recently knitted a summer shirt from cotton-polyester ribbon yarn. It’s soft, smooth, lightweight, and cooling. Despite the polyester content, it doesn’t make you sweat. I’ll use the leftover yarn to make a summer loop scarf.
