Scrubby yarn / leftover scrubby yarn: Is it easy to work with?

Do you have any experience working with scrubby yarn / leftover scrubby yarn? What’s it like to work with? Does it work well?

I just can’t get used to this yarn.
It’s too scratchy for me.

I tried using it to crochet Christmas ornaments. In the process, I discovered that there are at least two types. One is a bit coarser, and the other is very fine and soft. I really liked the second type. 

The last one I worked with was very easy to crochet with. It was actually relatively comfortable and not as scratchy as some others. It was Sponge Creative by Tedi, a 25-gram skein.

I didn’t find it that scratchy at all, but if there are differences, maybe I had something softer.

How long does a crocheted dish sponge usually last? It would be a shame to use it for that.

And what do you mean by “scratchy”—like, for wearing it or something? 😳

It’s scratchy when crocheting. But as I mentioned before, I didn’t find that to be the case at all.
I’ve crocheted a few cleaning sponges for the bathroom and kitchen; I’ve had them for about a year and a half now, washed them countless times, and they’re still like new. I can’t complain.

Sponge yarn isn’t really suitable for wearing. The rough texture is meant to remove things like dried-on food scraps, for example.
But when crocheting, I don’t find it unpleasant. After all, they aren’t large pieces that take forever to work on. (I actually find it much more tiring to crochet with textile yarn.)
And as far as durability goes, they’re indestructible. I’ve had mine for two years now, and I’ve been washing them in the washing machine with the rest of my laundry after just 1–2 uses. And as Veronika says: they’re still like new!
