Mermaids are always “in” with little girls!
Mermaid Marina is about 40 cm tall when fully stretched out. Rico acrylic yarn was used for the body. To show the scales on the tail beautifully, I crocheted it in a bobble stitch pattern. The hair is made of mohair yarn, which looks especially realistic. Chenille wire was worked into the arms and the fishtail so they can be bent. (If you’re making Marina for small children, though, it’s better to leave out the wire—that’s no problem).

I also like to work with different materials when making crocheted
hand puppets. For the
“King” hand puppet, for example, the king’s robe was crocheted from chenille yarn and edged with a crocheted border made of gold glitter yarn. The crown is made from the same glitter yarn. Plush yarn (Phil douce by Phildar) was used for the hair and beard, and the head and hands are made from cotton yarn.
