The trend colors for 2023 are...

Indigo and honey yellow!

So, what do you think? Are these your colors, and will they influence your choices when buying yarn, fabrics, or clothing? Or would you rather stick with your tried-and-true favorite colors?

Best regards, Ina

Ina, yellow is my color anyway—I think that warm honey yellow is absolutely beautiful.
When I buy wool, I actually look for that color, and the same goes for clothes. I haven’t bought any fabric in ages—I just don’t get around to sewing anymore; my little sewing machine has been used only for mending and hemming for months now, unfortunately.
By the way, I really like your sewing projects.

Have a lovely evening, and best regards, Ines

Indigo is always a safe bet, and I just bought a shirt in honey yellow.
My favorite color is blue, in all its shades—from teal to turquoise and mint. So there’s definitely some variety, but I also like to try something new every now and then—it’s just that not everything suits me. That goes for yellow and orange too, but I still give them a try every once in a while.
When it comes to handmade projects, I prefer to play it safe—it would be a shame to put in all that work only to end up not wearing it. But a shirt is fine; if it really doesn’t work out, I can always wear it for housework.

Honey yellow is delicate—I can definitely see myself going for it if the yarn feels good. Indigo, too—I’d say yes to that as long as it feels good. Whether it’s for me or for others... we’ll see.

Honey yellow is always a good choice, but I’ll have to pass on indigo. I don’t like dark shades of blue or green (except for dark blue in jeans or jackets—that’s the exception)

Otherwise, I prefer bright, vibrant colors—both for myself and when crocheting.

Ina, according to Pantone, the trend color for 2023 is “Viva Magenta,” and the other is “Digital Lavender.”

Both colors don’t really suit me.
So I’d probably use them more for decorative purposes.

Well, I really like Ina’s color combination, too. I’m not sure if I’ll knit with them, though—I always choose colors based on how they make me feel.

I could also see myself using magenta and lavender; I like them. But again, I’m not sure if I’ll actually knit with them.

I’m actually not very interested in trend colors. I believe anyway that trends are set relatively arbitrarily by fashion labels. You can see that, too, in the fact that different companies market different colors as “trends.”

I have my favorite colors—the ones that suit me—and I mostly stick to those. Every now and then I do try something different, but I don’t know if that’s a trend. I mix and match what I like, and that’s my trend.

Yeah, everyone has their own opinion. Some people get swept up in the trend, others only to a certain extent, and some just know from years of experience what they like or what suits them.

Personally, I think sun yellow is very pretty. But (as a silver-haired person), I could never wear it because it makes me look pale. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work for me. But if someone has dark hair, I’m sure it would look great on them.

Shades of blue—yes, that’s a broad category. I only like aquamarine and turquoise; indigo blue is a bit too “subdued” for me.

To each their own. I take the same approach as Ruth. I create my own trends. After all, it’s taken me years—or even decades—to get here. And sometimes trends change. Way back when I was young, I liked turquoise, and then I didn’t like it at all for years. Now I really like it again. Same goes for brown. I used to hate it (? an “old-people’s color”), but today I find brown tones elegant. Everything changes—why not our tastes? No matter what the fashion industry dictates, let’s just set our own trends!

Best regards, Ina

Vanilla yellow works better for me—a strawberry blonde with freckled skin—than honey yellow.

My favorite color since childhood has been and always will be red.

I feel the same way as Ruth—I don’t follow any trends either. I’ve found my own colors and my own style, so any *trend* can just slide right down my back ;-) :-)
Since I sew my own clothes anyway, thank goodness I don’t have to rely on them. I know that when I wear a skirt, I look like a barrel on two legs, so I don’t wear skirts or dresses either :-) Just pants—maybe culottes with really wide legs in the summer. When you’re on the broad side and a bit crooked to boot, you have to figure out how to make it work so you look good :-)
For me, if I’m going with colors, it’s fall colors—I know I can’t go wrong with those. In harsh shades of yellow, I look like Death’s sales rep ;-)

Best, Inge

Oh, Inge, your humorous neologisms always make me laugh.

Hahaha, that Inge... Querschlank—I’m cracking up.

Well, I actually like all colors. My favorite colors have included blue, black, green, and currently yellow.
The more color action, the better.
Of course, I get swept up in trends. After all, you don’t see anything else, so you just HAVE to buy it, and then from season to season you start to see it as beautiful because everyone’s wearing it. And if you wait long enough, all the colors come back into style.

I don’t really see it as something you have to do just to fit in—I always view trends as inspiration, new ideas that I might not have come up with on my own.
Of course, I found my style a long time ago—I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore—but that doesn’t mean I can’t change things up or discover new things for the rest of my life.

....Trend.... For me, shopping trips are usually pretty “short” 🙈. When I walk into a store and see right at the entrance what feels like five shirts, each in four trendy colors, and everything else is mostly “tone-on-tone,” I don’t even go any further. There’s no point in browsing any more.
Years ago, I bought a jacket—I was really proud of it; I thought it was so great.... About two weeks later, three people were already walking around in “our” small town wearing that same jacket. I never wore it again!
As a rule, I only wear what I like—I need “my” colors and my style. I do try out other colors sometimes, too—I like “spice colors” as an accent.
Honey yellow 🤔—I’d have to see that in person, but the color would also have to go with the cut....
So again, if I like it on the spot, it goes in the basket.

Inge, you’ve made me laugh now, too. It’s just delightful when you really get going. Everything’s so much more fun with a sense of humor—even reading this. It’s great to have you here.

This is what I look like in a skirt—I think it’s awful. I sewed the outfit I’m wearing here for my youngest daughter’s wedding, which was about 14 years ago now. That was the last time I wore a skirt; since then, it’s been nothing but pants. That outfit hasn’t been around for a long time either.

Best regards, Inge

Dear Inge,
you don’t look at all “like a barrel”—after all, a barrel is uniform from top to bottom. You have wonderfully feminine proportions, and your figure really shows. And much more remarkable than your “sideways slim” (I still crack up at that joke) is your “sideways grin”—it’s sooo endearing and contagious that I couldn’t help but grin right back when I saw it. ♡♡♡
