As a visitor, yes :)
But only at a small one. It wasn’t anything “special,” but it was a nice change of pace. My first visit to a Christmas market since 2018!
I went to a Christmas market—it was really great. A courtyard café hosts a weekend-long event every year with lots of vendors—no mass-produced goods, just handmade items. So diverse and beautiful. The weather was perfect, too; I really enjoyed it.
On Friday, we’re having a small Christmas market with the youth center. I’ll be there as a vendor. This is the first time the market is being held—it was canceled last year. I’m excited to see how it goes. It’s small, but I’m still hoping for lots of visitors.
No, I haven’t been yet. We haven’t liked the big ones downtown for a long time now, but the courtyard nearby always has a very small but charming one. I might stop by there in the next few days—it’s cold enough for mulled wine by now.
Years and years ago, we had the brilliant idea to spend the third weekend of Advent in Rothenburg ob der Tauber—it was so crowded there wasn’t even room to panic; it was absolutely dreadful!
The little Christmas market here at the farm stand is always nice and empty on weekdays, and I don’t go on the weekends either.
I finally met up with my school friend today after more than a year. Just strolled through it briefly. Mostly just food stalls, and everything was overpriced. I had a mushroom dish.
I was there last week too, but with my childhood friend. Finally got to meet up after more than a year. But we had coffee at the Galerie (a small department store).
My husband and I went to the Magdeburg Christmas market last Thursday. Saw something different for a change and had a mulled wine.
As for eating Mutzen (those little doughnuts)—all they have now is that vegan stuff. Nah, thanks.
Other than that, it was worth seeing, and I even stopped by a craft store. Unfortunately, I didn’t find what I was looking for. Oh well.
Maybe we’ll head to the Christmas market in Potsdam this week. I love looking at all the beautiful light displays everywhere. I’m still on vacation this week.
But then I’ll have had enough of Christmas markets.
I spent two weekends at a Christmas market as a performer, dressed in provincial Roman attire and with my hand spindle. I met some very nice people and had some wonderful conversations. It was well worth it!
I was back here in town at the small but very charming Christmas market on the second weekend of Advent as an exhibitor.
The winter weather was great—it even snowed a little on Friday…
The people were very nice and eager to shop 👍🏻. It was well worth it and a lot of fun.
Yes, I’m also looking forward to Friday. Because many of the people who come are interested, and hopefully there will be lots of conversations with everyone. I really miss exchanging ideas with others.
I’m keeping an eye on the weather forecast… It’s supposed to be minus 9 degrees in the evening and at night. Right now, I’m testing out on my walk how many layers I need to wear so I don’t get cold. 🤣

— Here in Esslingen, we also have a medieval market during the Christmas season. It’s beautiful and interesting. But unfortunately, it’s so crowded that I didn’t enjoy it even before the pandemic.
During the day, it was nice to stroll around, but it lacked the Christmas market atmosphere, and in the evening it was so packed that you couldn’t even get through.
@WollwunderPetra
Most of my interested visitors came during the day: middle-aged women and families with children who weren’t too young. I tried to catch their eye so I could then approach them. Hardly anyone came over on their own. I guess I’m hard to categorize.
It really takes special talents to navigate a market successfully.
Personally, I haven’t been to a Christmas market in a long time. I, too, find the crowds and the cramped spaces annoying, and the nicer markets are too far out of the way for me.
Years ago, we used to love going to Christmas markets, which in our area were mostly held at castles. But at the last one, the crowds and the admission fee were just too much for me. Next weekend would be interesting for us, since a friend of ours is participating in the “SpeedCarving” event at the Krems Christmas market (carving with a chainsaw). But it’s such a long drive again, and the parking lots are so far away—my old bones just can’t handle it. Too bad.
I had a booth at the Christmas market at Amberg Castle last weekend. It went really well!
As a visitor, I don’t like being in such big crowds, but as an exhibitor, I love it! You get to have great conversations with all kinds of people and—most of the time—feel really appreciated. I especially enjoy watching all the different hats people are wearing ;-)
