Dear users, dear authors,
How many UFOs (unfinished objects / projects in progress) do you currently have?

Dear Josefa, still quite a lot. Countless, I think.

But no new ones have been added lately. I’ve finished all the projects I started, since they were gifts.

One shawl that I’m currently working on every day and quite diligently.
And besides that, another 3–4 that have been lying around for years and probably won’t be finished even in a few years.

It usually goes like this: Either I see a project through to the end, or it remains a never-ending UFO :)

Unfortunately, I’m in the same boat as Petra: countless! For some of the new ones, I just need to weave in ends or crochet a border; others are more time-consuming… Since the new ones are all meant as gifts, they need to be finished soon, while the older ones can wait a little longer. Of course, I hope they’ll all get finished eventually!

I’ve got: a second glove, a scarf for my daughter, a new dishcloth, and a knitted top-down raglan.

What I’m looking for: motivation to finish at least one project.

I finished one today. I still have 4 left.
And that’s actually quite a lot for me. Normally, I try not to start more than 2 things at once, but somehow things have gone a bit off track over the last few months… ^^‘

No, I’m still bravely sticking to just one thing at a time. That’ll change a bit next year—I want to make the thermal blanket, but that’ll take the whole year, so I’ll probably have two things in progress most of the time.... and hopefully no more than that.

I have three.... As for the fourth, my cat “helped” me decide whether to unravel it or save it for later 🙈 After his
“5 minutes”—which, of course, he also had to spend tearing through the craft basket—the sweater, or rather the yarn, was so tangled up that the only option was to unravel it. So I still have two bags that need quite a few more rows of crocheting, a dishcloth where I’d have to knit back one row, and a jacket where only a small piece of the second sleeve is actually missing, though I somehow can’t find the first one anymore... So, add buttons and it’s a long vest 😇

.....I was actually just about to rip it out.... but there are only five rows left in the pattern and a few color stripes to finish it off....
I’ll just crochet those to finish it 😊 even though I was only supposed to use the craft bag for a short while...

A few small items fit in there.... Let’s see whether I add a zipper or just use it as a shoulder bag....

I’ve finished one UFO: a dishcloth.

For me, these are all unfinished project ideas that have been scrapped or are on hold until I feel like working on them again. Sometimes the color of the yarn ball doesn’t match, etc..... My box is full. *laughs*
This past spring, I actually followed a pattern to crochet a shawl for my daughter’s teacher—it’s so relaxing when you don’t have to think about how to write patterns for what you’re doing.

I only have one UFO on hold right now—it’s still the “soul warmer.” Since I’ve been sewing a lot lately, I haven’t had time to knit it, but I plan to get back to it next week.
I’ve got the pattern and fabric ready for a long-sleeve shirt for myself—we’ll see when I get around to it.

Best regards, Inge

Crocheting and knitting aren’t a big deal. I’m just working on 4 projects, switching back and forth between them. A crocheted blanket, a cardigan, and a tunic. The baby shoes I have on my needles right now are squeezed in because they’re needed. My boss is going to be a grandpa—to twin girls.
As for sewing, you’d better not ask. I’ve been diligently working through my backlog for years, and there are actually fewer projects every year. The current count is 15.🙈 I’ve finished 3 this year, not counting newly started projects that were finished right away. Because for me, those aren’t UFOs. I found a small one yesterday and finished it right away.
Best regards, Marita

I don’t count planned projects as UFOs either—otherwise, there would be quite a few. I have plenty of fabric and patterns lying around here so I can get started whenever the urge to sew strikes me again.

Hi, I currently have 9–10 UFOs that I’ve crocheted and knitted 🙄.
It’s crazy when you see the number 😲

I’ve had a tunic for two years now—all that’s left is the “edging”—but for some reason, I don’t like it anymore 😲, we’ll see—maybe I’ll end up unraveling it after all 🤔

Then there’s a shawl (I’ve knitted two more in the meantime)—somehow I always “have” to try out right away whether a pattern I see is right for me, and if I have the right yarn, I start knitting right away 😇. Then I tinker with some patterns until I like them 😉
I’ve only finished 3 UFOs so far (I still need to take pictures of them when the weather’s nice)
Then I’ve got two “wish shawls” for my friends and also a birthday present for my son’s girlfriend 😉

I finally found the right knitting pattern for some speckled yarn (it’s been in my stash for about 5 years), but for this “weave pattern,” I just can’t seem to find the right “middle stitch” for the triangular shawl 😔

It’ll probably end up being asymmetrical—the pattern looks really great. I’m already thinking about whether I might make it two-colored “someday,” but then I’d still like it to be symmetrical, so I’ll probably have to tinker with it a bit more 😂

If you don’t count the many pieces with undone seams or little holes that still need to be mended, I actually only have one UFO. It’s a Crazy Wool project that I started 10 years ago out of fascination but then didn’t continue due to a lack of time. Maybe I’ll manage to finish it next year, once all my

I used to knit a lot way back when, but at some point it got buried under mountains of office work. Now that I’m actually retired, I started again 12 weeks ago (after a 35-year hiatus from knitting).
Right now, I can’t work fast enough to keep up with the ideas pouring out of my head, and I’m working on four knitting and crochet projects at the same time, plus the swatches I use to try out all sorts of things. These aren’t real UFOs, though, because some of them have already been promised as gifts. And I have to admit that my rediscovered passion has me so hooked that I spend every free minute on it and can’t wait to see how the recipients react to the pieces.

I’m not retired, but I rediscovered knitting and crocheting five years ago—and turned it into my passion. I don’t count the swatches, but ideas are constantly running through my head about what I’d like to make with which yarn, etc.
I often (like you) make a small swatch to see if I can follow the pattern, and if so, it sometimes even keeps me up at night 🙄 when I have to mull over which of my yarns will create the best “effect” 😇
I also love giving away things I’ve crocheted or knitted myself—and I’ve made some patterns multiple times (often in different colors, including two-tone—gradient yarn cakes make for great variations 😉
Have fun with your newly discovered hobby!

My sweater is finished. We’ll see if we become friends. If I could unravel the yarn, I would have taken it all apart yesterday.

Is that the sweater from the “rectangles”..... 🤔

Yeah, a sweater made from a rectangle.

You see, on the left side, the opening for my left arm is at the bottom left.
On the right side, the opening is at the top right. So it’s shifted diagonally. And the shoulder always slips down on one side. It’s kind of weird.

I once knitted “something like that” as a poncho… It looks pretty, but it’s not really “wearable” either

Hi Petra,
I love the color—it looks nice and cozy too 👍
That said, I’m not a fan of things that sit a bit “crooked”—it’s just a matter of taste,
so just give it a try. It might be pretty nice as a cover-up in the summer 🤔

One less UFO—yesterday I unraveled the tunic I’ve been crocheting for the second year in a row 🙄
The only bummer is that now I’m constantly racking my brain about what to do with the ball of yarn 😇

This is my first post here!
I have 4 UFOs: a shawl in shades of green with a fan pattern, crocheted from the top down,  another shawl in fall colors made from a beautiful gradient bobble yarn—I just couldn’t wait; it goes so well with the season—then a shopping bag, because I had to give mine away right after I finished it *grin*—and then a whole swarm of UFOs: daisy-patterned bookmarks made from yarn scraps that I plan to include as mini-gifts in my Christmas mail.  So, actually, it’s manageable.
But don’t even ask what else I’ve got stashed away in terms of yarn! My utility room looks like a well-stocked yarn shop, and the patterns I’ve downloaded here already fill two ring binders. There’s still plenty more to come!

Hi Andrea-herrde—and welcome,
@ My utility room looks like a well-stocked yarn shop, and the patterns I’ve downloaded here already fill two ring binders.

I know exactly what you mean—it’s bad, isn’t it? I don’t even know where to put my yarn anymore—I really need to “work through” some of it. I’ve decided to go on a yarn/pattern diet; I hope I can stick with it 😇

I’ve now created a list of UFOs on my phone (occupational hazard); I’ve really lost track of them all by now 🙄

That’s what I tell myself every time I just can’t resist... Tomorrow another package with 8 yarn cakes is coming! But how can you not order anything when there’s a 51% off sale?? But now it’s really over—I feel just like you, I honestly don’t know where to put it all anymore! By the way, I’m showing all the signs of a real addiction—even hiding it! My husband mustn’t find out that another package of yarn is on its way! He already thinks I’m crazy anyway!

Hi Andrea,
I know what you mean—I even had something shipped to my mom while I was on vacation 😇😂
And unfortunately, I stumbled upon two more yarn stores having “sales” while I was on vacation 🙄
