It depends—sometimes a loop is too warm for me, so I’ll take a scarf, just wrap it around my neck, and let both ends dangle in front, because it’s important to me that the back of my neck is always nice and warm. I don’t like anything tight around my neck—it makes me feel like I’m being strangled, which is a terrible feeling, I tell you.
It depends on the thickness of the scarf. If the material is thinner, I fold it in half lengthwise. Then I thread both ends of the scarf through the loop. This creates a bit more volume around the neckline and is also warmer. And if necessary, you can quickly loosen it up.
I don’t like the way scarves used to be worn—with one side neatly crossed over the other—I find that old-fashioned. But to each their own.
I also wear loop scarves. Since I don’t like heavy materials on the back of my neck, it has to be light and very soft wool or another lightweight material (like silk). I wrap the loop scarf around my neck twice, but there still has to be some space left. That way, my neck and nape stay warm without feeling weighed down.
Those big, chunky, extra-long scarves (with fringe) that I used to wear as a teenager because they were trendy were draped loosely around the neck once, and then the ends had to dangle down really long. I wouldn’t wear those anymore either. Too much wool, too heavy, too unwieldy. That’s just how tastes change.
When I wear scarves, I do it like Ina. I don’t like a real knot either.
But my favorites are triangular scarves—cotton ones for fall and wool ones knitted for winter.
Best regards, Marita
And I’m more like Inge—I can hardly stand anything at the front of my neck, which is why all my tops always have a lower neckline. Well, when it gets cold, even I need a scarf. I wrap it loosely once around my neck and let the ends dangle so that my nape and bronchi are a little protected. My throat just has to cope with that.
I don’t have any crocheted scarves—just some thin and slightly thicker fabric scarves. I wear them the same way Ina wears her scarves. I don’t like knots around my neck either; I feel the same way as Inge.
I own a lot of crocheted triangular scarves (without fringes), and I like to wear those, too.
I hold the triangular scarf by the long side in front of my neck, cross the ends at the back of my neck, and let the ends dangle down in front (not too long—the scarf sits loosely), without a knot, otherwise it gets too bulky.
