What fabric for swimsuits?

Dear users, dear designers,
what fabric do you use for swimsuits? I read that it’s some kind of performance fabric? What does that mean?

For swimsuits, there’s a bi-elastic polyester fabric that’s very durable. Sewing a swimsuit isn’t that hard at all; I’ve sewn a few myself, and I can’t even remember the last time I bought one. I used one of my old store-bought swimsuits as a pattern, took it apart, and used the individual pieces to adjust the pattern, since I couldn’t fit into it anymore anyway—it was so thin.
 To sew a swimsuit, all you need is a standard sewing machine with a triple zigzag or a regular zigzag stitch. If you’re sewing your own swimsuit, you should also use Powernet—a figure-hugging lining fabric that’s also used in bras and the like. It keeps everything where it belongs. :-)

Here's another swimsuit. I sewed this one when I was about to burst, weight-wise, but I was going to water aerobics to lose weight. These days, you could practically throw me through it :-)

Veronika, I actually took a class just for that—just like when I learned how to sew lingerie. I sewed my own bras for years, and I still sew my own panties today.
